چکیده

Public road infrastructure is developed all around the world. To save resources, ensure public safety, and provide longer-lasting infrastructure, structural health monitoring (SHM) applications for roads have to be researched developed. Asphalt one of largest used surface materials building industry. This material also provides relatively easy fiber optical sensor technology installment, which can effectively SHM applications—road as well resource optimization when or their repairs are planned. article focuses on research Bragg grating (FBG) temperature strain in SHM, part greater interdisciplinary project started at Riga Technical University year 2017. Experimental work described this was realized Latvian sites where FBG sensors were installed into asphalt pavement, experiments carried out two main scenarios. Firstly, a controlled environment with calibrated falling weight deflectometer (FWD) test sensors. Secondly, by evaluating real-time traffic impact measured temperature, different types vehicles passed span embedded. The findings illustrate that gathering combining data from FWD measurements, measurements embedded providing essential information how pavement structure could sustain load about intensity specific section, life evaluated predicted. Thus, it enables optimal future design necessary requirements constraints efficient use, maintenance, timely roads, directly contributing overall safety our transportation system.

Structural health monitoring of civil infrastructure.

Structural health monitoring (SHM) is a term increasingly used in the last decade to describe a range of systems implemented on full-scale civil infrastructures and whose purposes are to assist and inform operators about continued 'fitness for purpose' of structures under gradual or sudden changes to their state, to learn about either or both of the load and response mechanisms. Arguably, vario...

Smart Sensing Technology for Structural Health Monitoring

“Smart” sensors with embedded microprocessors and wireless communication links have the potential to fundamentally change the way civil infrastructure systems are monitored, controlled, and maintained. Indeed, a 2002 National Research Council Report [1] noted that the use of networked systems of embedded computers and sensors throughout society could well dwarf all previous milestones in the in...

Networked Sensing for Structural Health Monitoring

1 This paper describes an ongoing project investigating embedded networked sensing for structural health monitoring applications. The vision is of many low-power sensor “motes” embedded throughout the structure with a smaller number of nodes that can provide local excitation. The challenge is to develop both the networking algorithms to reliably communicate within the network, and distributed a...

Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Infrastructure Using Optical Fiber Sensing Technology: A Comprehensive Review

In the last two decades, a significant number of innovative sensing systems based on optical fiber sensors have been exploited in the engineering community due to their inherent distinctive advantages such as small size, light weight, immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and corrosion, and embedding capability. A lot of optical fiber sensor-based monitoring systems have been developed...

Low Cost UAV-based Remote Sensing for Autonomous Wildlife Monitoring

In recent years, developments in unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight on-board computers, and low-cost thermal imaging sensors offer a new opportunity for wildlife monitoring. In contrast with traditional methods now surveying endangered species to obtain population and location has become more cost-effective and least time-consuming. In this paper, a low-cost UAV-based remote sensing platform...
